New Delhi, March 10 -- Kirori Mal College (KMC) of Delhi University is set to initiate a breach in the language barrier of North Campus colleges. Come July, Kirori Mal College (KMC) will be the only co-educational institution in North Campus to have separate sections for students where Honours courses will be taught in Hindi.
The college will initially begin with History (Honours) and Political Science (Honours) from the new academic session. "The composition of classrooms is changing fast after the implementation of OBC (Other Backward Classes) reservation.
We now have more students coming from Hindi medium schools. So the need for this is stronger than ever before," said Principal Bhim Sen Singh.
"We are currently focusing just on History and Political Science as most of such students are concentrated in these courses," said Singh. "Plus, teaching material in Hindi for these subjects is easily available," he added.
However, Kirori Mal College (KMC's )increasing number of students from Hindi-medium schools can also be attributed to the fact that it allows applicants to use their Hindi marks instead of English to calculate the best-of-four average. Comprising nine of Delhi University's most sought-after colleges, North Campus is usually perceived as the bastion of students from top English medium schools and with best Board results.
Even as many off campus colleges have separate sections for Hindi-medium students, institutions here, expect for a few papers of B.A. Programme, hold Honours classes in English.
